Southwest has cheapy flights ($99 each way) from Long Island to Los Angeles. You just have to buy the the fares by July 26th (next Thursday), but you can fly up until January 11th. I just priced out a trip from NY to LAX and the fare is $239 including all taxes. So...if you can swing $239 now, that means come chilly December or January, you can come visit me by the beach :) You know you want to.

Also check out Virgin America. Prices should be comparable -- Southwest and JetBlue just lowered their prices to compete with the UK company
